Geoffrey Asiome Kwame Buta

Geoffrey Kwame Buta is a highly acclaimed photojournalist, recognized both in Ghana and internationally, with a career spanning over a decade. He currently lectures part-time and is pursuing a PhD in Social Change Communication at the University for Development Studies. At New Times Corporation, he rose from news photographer to acting Northern Regional Manager. Among his many awards are the Ghana Journalists’ Association Photojournalist of the Year (2012, 2019, 2022), a Road Safety Reporting Award, the Thomson Reuters Foundation/Nokia Photo Award (UK), Deutsche Welle (DW) Human Right Photography Award in African and a “People’s Choice Award” for Foto4Change.
In 2013, Buta founded Foto4Change to document social issues in Ghana, which later became a registered non-profit for visual advocacy. Previously, he also established Buta Photography, a leading agency working across several African countries, providing visual consultancy for UN agencies, NGOs, and corporate clients.
